About Find Your Flock

About Find Your Flock

Find Your Flock is a place to explore Mahjong, culture, design, community, and the human need to gather, connect, and belong.

I’m Emirry Zhang, founder of Flamingo Mahjong. I started Find Your Flock as a place to document what I’m discovering along the way—about Mahjong, American culture, design, and the communities forming around an old game in a changing world.

Why Mahjong?

Mahjong is more than a game.

It is a reason to sit around a table. A reason to make time for one another. A way for people who might otherwise never meet to gather, talk, laugh, compete, and build friendships.

As Mahjong continues to find new audiences in the United States, I became interested in something bigger than the game itself:

Why do people still need places to gather, connect, and belong in an increasingly digital world?

That question is at the heart of Find Your Flock.

 What I’m Exploring

 Here, I write about:

 Mahjong & Culture

How Mahjong travels across cultures, generations, and communities—and what changes along the way.

 Design

Objects, spaces, patterns, materials, and visual ideas that give Mahjong a place in contemporary life.

 Community

The people, places, rituals, and social connections that bring us together.

 Founder Notes

Things I’m learning while building Flamingo Mahjong and exploring what it means to bring an old cultural tradition into a new context.

Some stories will be about Mahjong. Others may begin somewhere completely different.

But they will usually come back to the same question:

What makes a place feel like your place?

 And Flamingo Mahjong?

Find Your Flock is independent from the Flamingo Mahjong commercial website, but the two are connected by the same curiosity.

Flamingo Mahjong is a brand creating Mahjong products and experiences for a new generation of players.

Find Your Flock is where I explore the ideas, stories, cultures, and people behind that journey.

One is about building a brand.

The other is about understanding the world around it.

And both begin with the same belief:

 We all need a flock.
